The date and site of the concert are now confirmed. It will take place at the beautiful and spacious Mentor Schools Fine Arts Center on Saturday, May 8, 2010. If you were in Ro's choir or band, warm up your chops because an alumni choir and an alumni band will rehearse Saturday morning and perform that evening. If you choose to not participate in the alumni ensembles, that's fine, but do plan on being here to experience this big event! Appropriately, we held it at Cork's Wine Bar in downtown Willoughby. A toast to Ro started our meeting, which lasted two-and-a-half hours. Executive summary:

Representatives from South choir and band alumi, Lakeland Choir, Ohio Bell Choir

Lakeland Community College (President and also Dean of Arts & Culture) are solidly behind our effort

Everyone is passionate about this event (no surprise there)

Chris Robinson, choir director at Lakeland, is as enthusiastic as anyone about this and will be leading the way in organizing the musical aspect of this community tribute concert.

There was thought about doing it sometime soon to capture the emotions of everyone, but we all finally agreed we need a year to plan this because it will be such a huge event.

Maintaining the passion and interest of everyone will be easy enough through regular and effective communication, and in fact will probably build the enthusiasm even more.

Event will most likely be Friday, May 7 (rehearsals) and Saturday, May 8, 2010 for the performance. Yes, that is Mother's Weekend, but we believe this will be double reason for out-of-town folks to come back.

A web site for this event will be created. We'll post that and all other information on a regular basis as it develops. Motel info, fundraising info, musical selections, etc. We are hoping to book the Mentor Performing Arts Center and fill its 1,500 seats. Even if you weren't in the band or choir, you will want to consider attending. This will be a landmark event for all south alumni, for Willoughby, and for Northeast Ohio.
---Bob Keesecker

Romeo Pallante

I am very sorry to report that Mr. P. passed away on New Year's day at the age of 80 of a heart attack. There will be an 11:00am memorial service for him on Saturday, January 31 at the Willoughby United Methodist Church. Not to worry if you can't make that service. A huge tribute concert is being planned for a few months down the road, possibly even later than that. When that is organized, everyone will have plenty of lead notice about it. We expect people from all over the country to attend. All his former students will be able to participate in the choir and/or the band presentation. I'm involved with it, as is Jane Brower Bloodworth and a number of other South graduates from that era. Lakeland College is also at the core of the planning effort. Even members of Ro's Ohio Bell Choir will be participating. It will be a huge community event. I'll post more about this event as it develops.

Garfield School

I am sorry to report to my Garfield School comrades that our school is no more. I visited so many of you, and so many of you drove me around to places. If I can make this blog to work, I´ll bring some pictures from my stay. Last October my American sister Sue Pierce visited us a week.First visit of my American family. It was a birthsday gift from my husband Sven (he´s spoiling me). We had such a great time. Sue and I was touring during the day coming home to Sven´s excellet cooking. I take America, Americans and your traditions for granted, as I do with the Danish way. But with Sue I realised how different our 2 countries are. 3 things: everybody here are talking English, downtown Copenhagen has 4 or 5 house story, because the center is from the middle age, you can bathe in the harbour and the channels, it´s so clean. Sven enjoyed so much her stay, so I hope he´ll go along with me another time. Sue has become a doctor in ministry. First blog I ever made! Love, Bobo
P.S.
